And so it begins . . .

I am currently a relief teacher in my first year out of uni. I am excited about the career in education that is ahead of me, and am sure that I will learn lots as I begin to make my way into the world of teaching. I’ve already established the fact that the lifestyle of a relief teacher is very inconsistent, and so in my spare time I plan to document my journey and continue to develop my own skills as an educator.

At this stage I don’t have any idea of what lies ahead for me in 2016. I may – fingers crossed – land a contract before the year’s out, or I may simply continue along the more spontaneous path of relief teaching. I am confident that whatever the case is though, it will be an exciting, surprising, challenging and rewarding year for me.

To those of you out there who have decided to join me on this journey, welcome! I am so pleased to have you along for the ride and am looking forward to what is to come!

  1. Beginnings… a new chapter, a new journey, a new frontier… as we take that first step it’s always exciting and a little terrifying. I’m sure though it won’t be long before you find your feet, undoubtedly in rhythm with some other little feet, on some school ground out there in the unknown where challenges will arise and the over use of Miss T, Miss T… will want to make you change your name once you walk out the school gates. But then there will be those unexpected moments when a kid finally gets it, you will see a little smile begin to form on a vegemite smeared face and it will be all worth it. It’s a brave new world for those who dare to take up the challenge of teaching in this new age of education, but I say… seize the day!
